A couple months ago I had an idea to get a little creative in a different way. I am in no way a drag queen. That is an art form in and of itself, and those artists have my full respect. It takes a LOT to do drag. The makeup the clothes, the persona and hair, what a beautiful and hard working lifestyle it is. My idea was for a photoshoot in exploring expression and identity and to also combine my love of Harry Potter. Everyone who knows me, knows I'm a Hufflepuff. Through and through. I smile too much, I lead with my heart more than my brain, I nurture the life of our planet and all it's inhabitants, and I hold the influence of positivity to be the most powerful force in turning around someone's day or week or year.
Soooooo I took my Hufflepuff character and got a beautiful makeover. My best friend Galyana is not only a tidal wave of talent when it comes to singing and performing on the stage, the girl knows her damn stuff when it comes to makeup! She beat my face in a way that the reigning supreme Ru Paul would even be proud of. Wrapped in my authentic Hufflepuff scarf, wand in hand, hairy chest bared to the world, I am ready to fight the forces that try to weigh down our world with negativity and divisiveness, cruelty and hurt. The colors of a Hufflepuff are gold and black. Colors that represent strength in a different way. Statement making. Gold shines it's sparkle, while black is solid and unwavering. I think those attributes are good for anybody in this world. Always share your unique gifts, and don't let anyone tell you you're wrong for it.
I encourage everyone to express themselves in a way that is different for them, even uncomfortable. For if we aren't uncomfortable, we aren't growing. You just might tap into more understanding of yourself. Hopefully by the end of this project, we will see all four Hogwarts houses represented in a different and inspiring way. Go out and be the light the world needs. Create the art that the world needs. Go out and fill the world with laughter and love that the world needs.
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore. Go and be that light.
